The monument and sub-monument of the remains of "Aisho-tei"
This monument is the first letter to Soseki's teacher "Naibu Kanda" which he wrote at "Aisho-tei" immediately after arrival his post in 16th Apr. 1895(Meiji 28). In his novel "Botchan", the hero moved to the house in the very quiet spot on a hillside at the outskirts of town from "Yamashiro-ya", on "Yamaarashi(teacher of Matsuyama Junior High School)"'s recommendation.
The master of it was called "Ikagin" who buy and sell antiques. The model of the lodging house was a small Japanese-style restaurant "Aisho-tei" belonged to Yasukichi Tsuda", which was another world with the finest view on halfway up a hill at the back of the court. Soseki had been lodging at the second floor of "Aisho-tei" for several months, from April to June or July in 1895.
Since Bansui-so was built as the another house of Hisamatsu Family in 1922(Taisho 11), no remains but the stone assembly of the well, which Soseki and others washed their face, remainded us of the old days.
