A round large stone laid in state being enclosed by the wooden fence on the north side of the main building of Dogo Spa. This stone is called "Tama-no-ishi"."I'm filled with admiration that "Tama-no-ishi - Stone of soul" being set up at the edge of the hot spring in Iyo is just the symbol the mythological age" (Ancient Poem)
This tanka(a 31 syllable Japanese poem) was carved on the stone column at the side of "Tama-no-ishi". This tanka appeared in the "Amano-kono-susabi" that Ichu Okanishi, well known all over the country as the leader of Haikai (the old type of Haiku), had toured round this place and recorded with his whole heart of the memorial services for his late wife, in the 2nd year of Tenwa(1682).
This stone is not only the symbol of the mythological age but the symbol of the oldest hot spring in Japan, "Dogo Spa".
