Kyokudo Yanagihara was the same age as Shiki and his real name was "Masayuki".
He started the Haiku magazine "Hototogisu". He devoted the rest of his life to throw light on Shiki's achievements and he never built his Haiku monument of his own accord.
In April of 1953 (Showa 28), the celebration for his eighty-eighth birthday, that about three hundreds of people presented, was held at the public office in Dogo (where the present Shiki Memorial Museum is located).
This celebration gave him a brilliant time late in life. This Haiku was composed at that time."I feel that the man Who had been called Rokudo match well With the season of autumn" (Shiki)
