Forty-seven retainers of Akou, made attack on Kira's residence and had got their real intention.
After that, Chikara Ohishi and other ten retainers were confined in the residence of Matsuyama feudal domain and committed hara-kiri in that place on Feb. 4th of the following year, 1703 (Genroku 16).
The mere inspector (kachi-metsuke), Hisadayuu Yoriyasu Miyahara did "kaishaku" (attend on the spot of hara-kiri and cut off head) of Gengo Ohdaka (32 years old) and Okauemon Kimura (46 years old). By the close connection with both of them, Hisadayuu built their graves in his family temple, "Koushinji Temple" and prayed for the repose of their soul.
Gengo Ohtaka was a pupil of Kikaku and good at Haikai (the ancient type of Haiku). He had a pen name of "Shiyou". This Haiku was the farewell Haiku composed on the eve of his death.
