Kiyoomi Nishimura (1812 - 1879) was a poet who was born in the castle town of Matsuyama.
He had studied literary and military art from his earliest childhood and been outstanding good at painting and sculpture. And he was well up on the study of Japanese classical literature.
He studied Waka (Tanka) under Yoshisato Ishii and later on, the old Unnoyuh Edo and Keiki Kagawa, and became famous as a local poet. He was the same age as Yoshisato Ishii, a poet in Matsuyama, but he outlived thirty years than Yoshisato. His first son was Masao Ide who studied Tanka under Shiki Masaoka.
This monument was built on Jan. 16th of 1878 (Meiji 11).
The inscription of this monumentwas the long sentence of about a thousand characters and written by Kiyoo Aono, the pupil of Kiyoomi.
Kiyoomi described the original text that was written down the history of the cherry tree of a good son and had been kept in the Ide house.
This Tanka was appeared in the end of this text. On Jan. 16th of 1795 (Kansei 7), Haiku originator, Issa Kobayashi visited this place and came to see the famous cherry tree.
At that time, he composed the following Tanka watching people crowded together there.
 "In January of the lunar calendar,
     People in this island of Shikoku are gathered
            Under the this famous cherry blossoms on friendly terms"
