Jouhukuji Temple (Hirata-cho)

"It seems to me that
Villagers' happy event just will be held
This day leaf buds sprout"

(Raishikyu Morita)

This Haiku imply that ;
" in this good spring day, when the leaf buds sprout, I heard someone's happy event will be held in this village."

This was his own handwriting.
Raishikyu was born at Nishi-Takayanagi, Matsune-cho, Iyo County, in 1872 (Meiji 5), and his real name was Aigoro. He became the chief priest of Hoju-in, Joufukuji Temple, in Hirata, Shiomi Village, Oonset County, in 1903 (Meiji 36).
He started to originate Haiku since 1895 (Meiji 28), and contributed his Haiku to the Haiku Magazine, "Hototogisu" in 1900 (Meiji 33) at first time. On December of that year, he went up to Tokyo and visited Shiki hermitage in Negishi to attended the anniversary of Buson's death.

It had been said that the name of "Raishikyu" derived from the following his Haiku.

"A spell of dry weather Will last since Mr. Sunder had died Just nasty weather, isn't it?"

In 1901 (Meiji 34), he became the selector of the Haiku World of Kainan Newspaper, and promoted the large meeting to restore "Shofu-kai" under the leadership of him. He made efforts in the rise of local Haiku world.
In 1909 (Meiji 42), he sympathized with Hekigotou who put forwarded the new trend, and was willing to attend the Haiku meeting in summer held in Dairenji Temple (Souhara Village), for all the one-way distance of eighteen kilo-meters in the next year.
At that time, Hekigotou composed the next Haiku ;

"Good Faith is refreshing like Chirring of cicadas sound very clear and Beautiful scenery of two-storied gate" (Hekigotou, Aug.5, 1902 (Meiji 43) )

On the other hand, he made all possible efforts in the cultivation and popularization of "Iyo Pear". He established the Iyo Trade association of Fruits and he was the pioneer who constructed our prefecture of these days that is called "the kingdom of fruit tree.
