(march of 1815)"The petals of cherry blossoms Fall in the soup and dishes of Raw fish under the tree" (Basho) "The earliest cherry blossoms are So beautiful that I fell very well Just in this flowery world" (Chodo)
These two Haiku make a pair and are called "Sakura mound" because that the title of them are the cherry blossoms.
The year of 1815 (Bunka 12) falls on the next year of Chodo's death.
This monument is called "Sakura Mound" in opposition to "Yanagi Mound" in Taisanji Temple.
It is supposed that the combination of Basho and Chodo was connected to the combination of Basho and Chikuou, the local Haiku originator, of "Yanagi mound".
This Basho's Haiku was originated in 1690 (Genroku 3), and this Haiku sketched the scenery that cherry blossoms are scattered over the banquet in the cherry blossom viewing.
And Chodo's wife belonged to the family of Matsuda in Mitsu. Chodo married his daughter to his wife's birthplace and used to originate Haiku with Michio Kantou who married into his wife's family.Chodo was closely related to Mitsu. The other Basho's mound are "Hanaire Mound" (Ishiteji Temple), "Yanagi Mound" (Taisanji Temple), "Shimoya Mound" (Kuma-Daihouji Temple), "Arakabu Mound" (Miho Shrine) and so on.
