"The cherry blossoms being open Remind me of all sorts of things Just in this spring garden" (Basho,In 1894 ,Meiji 27)

The year of 1894 fell on the 200th anniversary of Basho's death.
The builder of this monument is not clear, but it was supposed that the Haiku originator of this district would build this monument on the 200th anniversary of Basho's death.
When Basho came back to his home country, Iga-Ueno, on March of 1687 (Teiryo 4), he got Yoshinaga Todou's invitation of cherry blossom viewing. Yoshinaga Todou was the child of the late Yoshitada Todou, who was the old lord and his pen name was "Sengin", and Yoshinaga's pen name was "Tangan".
Basho visited Yoshinaga's residence after an interval of twenty years, and composed this Haiku with deep emotion that put him in mind of the various things every time he look at the unchanged garden and the cherry blossoms.
Tangan added to this Haiku as "The long spring day get dark while writing".
When the old lord, Sengin died of disease at 25, his son, Tangan had been at the age of 23. Basho was 45 years old at that time.
