Matsuyama Junior High School once stood at this place that is remenbered in connection with Soseki.

In 1885,Soseki Natsume taught English at this place.
The scenes of a masterpiece of "Botchan" was laid in this Matsuyama Junior Highschool. At the newly building of Shikoku Denden bldg.,this monument was built with planting a tree of eucalyptus which has been rising in the school garden at that time.

"When I'm saying good by,
A bird is crying out and,
Flying high into clouds."


"A bird fly into clouds"is a season word of Spring. Soseki compared himself to the image of a bird when he left for Kumamoto in 1886.
