Kotenshi (his real name was Masao) was born at Yamamuradomari, Ochi county, in 1887 (Meiji 20). He went on to the teacher's school and started Haiku after growing up.

He became a member of Haiku society, "Shibugaki" and studied under Toyojo Matsune. He good at Haiku pictures and published Haiku poetry, "Watasumi".
He was awarded the prize of education and culture of Ehime.
This monument was built in the school yard of Yodo Elementary School in 1952 (Showa 27). Tsubotenshi had worked at Yodo Elementary School for eleven years and been loved dearly as the principal of the school by people in Yodo.
He said in the unveiling ceremony of this monument;
"My real motive to select this Haiku is not that this Haiku is my satisfactory work or the most important work. I've composed this Haiku twenty years ago, placing a maternal love and personality that make sacrifice herself for her children, under the expression of "A child caught a cold in this Haiku."
Besides, in this school yard, there are two other monuments that gave high praises to Fusagoro Tsurumoto, a headman of Yodo Village, and Moutengai Mori.
