Izan was born in Debuchi-cho, present day 6-chome 3-bancho, Matsuyama.

A penname 'Izan' was used for his paintings and his penname for haiku was 'Gyuhan'. He was well-known as a haiga artist.

This haiku monument was established to commemorate the 70 anniversary of the foundation of Aratama Elementary School. It was on December 20, 1981.
