On the backside of the monument, there is a description by Kiyoomi's elder son, Masao Ide: This haiku monument commemorates Kiyoomi Nishimura who passed away on June 9th 1897 at one of the major cherry blossoms viewing spots.
"In the shadow of the rising sun Blossoms of the mountain cherry Shimmering and fragrant (Kiyoomi)
Established in 1881.
Kiyoomi was one of the most prominent tanka-poets in the end of 19th century.
Sugao Nishimura, who contributed to the education of working youth and a principal of Matsuyama jonan High School, was Kiyoomi's grandson.
