Parts of Bansui-so


"On a fine autumn day I'm so happy to take look at Castle Hill first of all" (Tsurujo Imai)


Tsurujo Imai was Masao Ikeuchi's third-born daughter and her real name was "Tsuru". Masao Ikeuchi was Kyosi Takahama's second eldest brother. Tsurujo was adopted as kyosi's eldest brother's daughter at the age of 4, because her father have died young. After that, she married with Goro Imai, the mayor of Hatohama-cho, and took the surname "Imai".
In 1940, she belonged to the member Haiku Magazine "Hototogisu", and "Tamamo" and she had been in charge of the selector in "Haiku Circle for women" of Ehime Newspaper, since 1953(Showa 28).
These parts of Bansui-so where this monument lies was the place she spent her time in her girlhood. So this place was all but her original scenery. In Oct.1984, this monument was built in this place to celebrate the 88th anniversary of her birthday.
At the unveiling ceremony, Tsurujo said in a choked voice, "I have been used to play alone around here in my childhood. Talking of my native town, I remember Matsuyama. Matsuyama recall me Castle hill. Castle Hill call this place to my mind. This Haiku is just my own personality!"
