Matsuyama City Station
" The Castle Hill stands out
in bold relief against the wind in
the season of fresh greenery" (Shiki)
This Haiku was composed in the summer of 1892 and appeared in the haiku poetry "kanzan Rakuboku" volume 1. We realize from the expression of "Matsuyama" before this Haiku that was composed Matsuyama Castle.
The sentence on the left side of the face of this monument was Shiki's epitaph(fullsize) that he sended his friend "Kasen Kawahigashi"(Heigotou's elder brother) in 3rd, Jul. of 1898(Meiji 31). This sentence is a brief and meaningful excellent composition. This monument lies at the terminal of the street car in the Matsuyama City Station Square.
