Tsubaki Shrine




"The sound and echo of a money offering to a deity let the flower of camellia fall" (Shiki)

The deity of improvement of one's fortune and thriving business, "Tsubaki-san" - Camellia Shirine, is the Shrine of the Iyo-zuhiko-no-mikoto. The annual grand festival held on 8th, Jan. of the lunar calendar every year.
The hundreds of thousands visitors to the shrine don't mind the winter cold and fill in the precinct. It is said that the name of "Tsubaki" derived from this shrine had lied by an arm of he sea, "Tsu-waki", in ancient times, but many camellias grow in the wood of the precinct.
On ordinary days, the sound of clapping hands echo in the deep silence.
