"The wind calms down the ship loaded mandarine oranges sail on the sea in October" (Shiki)


This Haiku appeared in the Haiku Poetry "Kanzan-Rakuboku" Volume 4(published in the winter of 1895).
In 19th, Oct. of 1895(Meiji 28), Shiki departured from Mitsu Port in the early morning, and went up Tokyo finally via Ujina(Hiroshima Prefecture). It would be a frame of the last scene that came into his eyes.
This monument was built in the Park of Uchi-shinden, as a part of readjustment of town lots of Katsuoka in 21th, Mar. of 1992(Heisei 4), with a view to reconstructing the peaceful town to commune with nature. This monument is the newest monument of Shiki in Ehime Prefecture as of Marc, 1997.
