(Seigetsu Murakami)
Seigetsu Murakami(1869-1946) was born the first son to father, "Kyutaro", and mother "Nao" in Nishi-habu, Iyo conty Ehime Prefecture (the present Nish-habu-cho, matsuyama).
In 1887(Meiji 20), he entered the first Junior highschool (the predecessor of the first Highschool), but he removed from the school to suceeded his father in his contry home, and made efforts in the economic build-up for rural district.
He was a person of strict morals andloyalty with inviolable dignity who had been used to wear kimono (Japanese cloths) neatly and stroke his long beard in a leisurely manner. He had been recognized unique on the history of the modern Haiku, because he got a start of the research on "buson" and established the new style of Haiku called "Tenna-gin" unique to himself.
He was the Haiku friend of Shiki and Soseki. He became intimate with Shiki stayed at Gudabutsu-an hermitage since 1895(meiji 28) and Shiki visited Seigetsu's residence in 7th, Oct. of 1895, and left the draft of Haiku. Soeki and Kyosi also visited 1st, March 0f 1896(Meiji 29) and omposed Haiku called "Shinsen-tai" and published it in "Mesamashi-kusa" volume 3 in Tokyo.
This monument was built by the member of "Imazu-gin sha", the Haiku association of Seigetsu's pupils, on the second anniversary of Seigetsu's death, feb. of 1948(Showa 23). The ten names of "Tanko Miyoshi" and other members were carved on this monument.
"new year's calendar" is the calendar that will be used throughout the year since New Year Day, for the old calendar, and it is the season word of New Year.
This Haiku has the diginity that has suits Seigetsu's character and is the kana-less Haiku that has no Japanese syllabary.
