The north of Deai Bridge

Sub-monument said as the source of this Haiku,
"This Haiku was composed by Shuohshi Mizuhara, the president of the "Ashibi" Haiku Group when he had been in Matsuyama in May of 1952(Showa 27), taking a view of the birthplace of Kokyo Ikazaki and Hakyo Ishida from Matsuyama Castle. This monument was built in May of 1988(Showa 63)".
Kokyo Ikazaki was born at Yodo Village, Iyo County (at present, 2-chome,Yodo-naka, Matsuyama), in 20th, Nov. of 1896(Meiji 29).
He dropped out Matsuyama High school because of his illness of terberculosis, and while he had recuperated, he took Shuohshi as his teacher to be absorbed in composing Haiku. When Shuohshi broke away "Hototogisu" and inaugurated "Ashibi", Kokyo moved to "Ashibi" with his pupil, Hakyo, and belonged to the first period of member of "Ashibi" in 1933(Showa 8). He organized "The Society of Ashibi in Matsuyama" and started Haiku magagine "Uzu-shio - whirling current" in the following year, 1934(Showa 9) to promote the local Haiku world.
Hakyo Ishida was born at Nishi-Habu, Habu-village(at present, Nishi-habu-cho,Matsuyama), in 18th, Mar. of 1913(Taisho 2). He studied under Kokyo, and became a disciple of Shuohshi through his teacher, Kokyo. He went up to Tokyo to be involved in the edition of "Ashibi" and became the important member of Shuohshi Group.
