"We can get a distant View of the mountain catche sun and the desolate field spread out" Kyoshi Takahama

26th Nov. 1900, haiku originated at Kyoshi-an hermitage.
The regular gathering of Haiku in Shiki-an Hermitage was called off on 14th Oct. of 1900 (Meiji 33), because of Shiki's condition taking a turn for the worse.
This Haiku was the most important work that Kyoshi loved to extremely.
His first son, Toshio who was born on December of that year, said to his father later about this Haiku ; I had explained that there is a view of life in the heart of author who is viewing the turn of seasons. For Toshio's way of thinking, Kyoshi answered ; To say that is very commonplace. It's not necessary to say "a view of life". It is just the genuine article to compose Haiku by viewing things before one's eyes. I went out the residence in Otakara-cho, Matsuyama, and looked at toward Dogo. The scenery , the winter sun casted a light on the spot of the hill behind Dogo-spa, came into view and I felt something reliable.
That Haiku is composed by the feeling of this! Haiku was the poem inquiring after ordinary life for Kyoshi. Kyoshi had learned the basics of Haiku from Shiki at the age of 18, since 1891 (Meiji 24), and he got to this ground only for 10 years.
The sight from the location of this Haiku monument is just suitable for this Haiku.
This monument was built on propitious day of Nov. of 1973 (Showa 48), celebrating the 100th years anniversary of Kyoshi's birth.
