"The lively twittering of birds
Paint out completely over heaven and earth
With mud of gold dust"
(Kishu) Nomura
The word of twitterring is the season word of Spring.
This Haiku implys that the song of birds chirping here and there cheerfully, is just as it has painted out not only around here but the whole of heaven and earth with the mud dissolved the gold dust in glue.
Kishu Nomura was born in Kanazawa City in 1886 (Meiji 19), and went up to Tokyo to study Haiku under Toyojho Matsune. He selected the opening Haiku of the Haiku Magazine "Shibugaki - a bitter persimmon - " for five years, from 1952 to 1976, and edited that magazine, following Toyojho.
He died in 1983 (Showa 58) at the age of 96.
