Both Shiki and Kyokudo were born in 1866 (Keiou 3). They discussed politics and made speeches enthusiastically with one another in Matsuyama Junior Highschool. In those days of 1889 (Meiji 22), Kyokudo was rated so high as " a literary of friend" by Shiki. In 1894 (Meiji 27), he became the member of "Shofu-kai", established by Souryu Noma and others. When Shiki returned home in 1895 (Meiji 28), he took the guidance of Haiku from Shiki day after day, and took a walk to compose Haiku to Ishiteji Temple with Shiki on 20th, Sept..
In 1897 (Meiji 30), Kyokudo published Haiku monthly magazine "Hototogisu" with Shiki in Matsuyama. The 300 copies of "Hototogisu" were published and then the edition of it was handed over to Kyoshi in Tokyo since No.21.
In 1951 (Showa 26), the year of 50th anniversary of Shiki, Kyokudo published "The story of Shiki" in which this Haiku is appeared, at the age of 85.
In 1902 (Meiji 35), he survived Shiki and devoted the rest of his life only to throw light on Shiki's brilliant achievements, longing for Shiki passionately.
Kyoukudo died at the age of 90 on 7th, Oct. of 1957 (Showa 32).
