The characters on this monument was written by Nousei Abe (a one-time minister of Education).
The tea shop of Higashino placed in the tract of the hill where located in the west part of the prefectural experiment station. In 1658 (Meireki 4), Sadayuki Matsudaira, the first leader of the Matsuyama feudal domain, who succeeded his post to his heir, Sadayori, built this tea shop in Higashino as his another house for retirement.

The tea room of the shop on the hill-top was built by Souan Sen, Ura-Senke style of tea ceremony, and it was called "The tea shop of bamboo", because it was entirely made up of bamboos.
The foundation stones and the pond modeled after the Lake of Biwa are still survive.
