Iwazeki (the sluice made of rocks)

"To get ayu fishes (sweetfishes) together
The sounds of sluice is nice and cool
In the River of Takara"

(Mokuzen)

The sluice made of rocks was developed by Shigenobu Adachi in the period of Keicho (The Edo Period). The Matsuyama plains used to be going a deluge by flowing over the banks of Yuyama River, much to the inconvenience of people, up to that time.
He cut down rocks, changed the water way to the direction of southwest and made Ishite River joint into Shigenobu River.
Because of that, the swampland in the lower reaches of the river changed into the fertile rice field of 3,000 cho-bu (about 7,353 acres) and the rice clops showed an increase in revenue of one-hundred koku (18 million-lit.).
Takara River was changed the name to Ishite River after its repairs.

  "The sluice made of rocks
The hailstones just have been scattered away
                 Against the rocks of sluice"
