"I hear the singing voice
Of travelers just going up the pass
covered by the fresh green"
(Shiki)
This Haiku was appeared in the haiku poetry "Kanzan Rakuboku" of 1892 (Meiji 2 5), titling "Misaka".
This Haiku was composed by Shiki remembering the second trip of three days and four nights to Iwaya Temple (traveled together with the three of Kohaku and others ), since Aug. 18th of 1890 (Meiji 23).
By the way, Shiki went up with his three friends in 1881 (Meiji 14) at first a t the age of 13. Shiki was too tired to walk on his way home and came back home by a rickshaw at Ishii near by.
At that times, there used to be a several tea shops on the Misaka Pass where h ad been crowded with many travelers.
This Haiku monument was built by the young men's association of Kubono in Saka moto village on April of 1952 (Showa 27).
