Ishite-ji Temple

"For consulting a written oracle
I just feel concerned about my welfare
The autumn breeze is biting"

(Shiki)

This Haiku was composed as well as Haiku of "Namu Daishi--" at the right time when Shiki took a walk to originate Haiku on Sept. 20th of 1895 (Meiji 28).
The characters were Yanagihara Kyokudo's handwriting.
Shiki got to Ishiteji Temple and originated this Haiku. He said in Haiku poetry "Sansaku-shu"; "I sit down the veranda of Taishi-hall and took breath, when I found a two-folded white paper near by. It is the 24th oracle of "misfortune" and it said "Your sick will be prolonged, but it will be fine in your life and so on." I wonder it hits my lot very well."
Shiki returned to Tokyo this autumn and began his life under treatment for eight years since that time.
