(Toshiou) Nishioka
Notes: field burning To burn field between winter season in order to grow thickly grasses in Spring.Toshiou was born in Haramachi village, Iyo County in 1886 (Meiji 19) and his real name was Toshio.
He entered the Haiku group of "Shibugaki - a bitter persimmon" on the recommendation of Kasou Senba and others and made efforts in the administration of the association and coaching of Haiku, when the association of Shibugaki in Matsuyama started.
He studied Haiku under Toyojo Matsune while at Waseda University in 1922 (Taisho 11). After graduation, he got job at Matsuyama Commercial High School and edited inclusively the Haiku association of Imadegin-sha and Hiraigin-sha.
This Haiku monument was built by the member of the branch of Shibugaki in Matsuyama and others taking a leading part to celebrate the his 77th birthday in 1956 (Showa 31).
