Matsuyama Shrine



Matsuyama Shirine , its origin is the small shrine that had been transferred to this place, Takou in Okayama, from Yuzuki Shrine (the present Isaniwa Shrine) on March of 1765 (Showa 2)., worshiped the Shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa, and named "Tosho-gu Shrine" to supress the quater lying to the northeast of Matsuyama Castle.
Since when the Tenman-gu Shrine at the foot of Mt. Miyukiji Temple, was transferred to this place by Jousei Hisamatsu and enshrined Michizane Sugawara to this shrine together with Ieyasu. This shrine had been the guardian deity in the area of Iwai Valley since that time.
The Haiku monument of Kyoshi Takahama and Mokuzen Sakai, the relation between them was that of master and pupil, had been located biside the stone stairs of Matsuyama Shrine, give us a somehow graceful thing.
