The feudal domain school "Meikyo-kan"

Meikyo-kan is the predecessor of the Matsuyama Junior Highschool and the present Matsuyama East Highschool. In 1937(Showa 12), the lecture hall of Meikyo-kan was dismantled and reconstructed in the ground of the Matsuyama East Highschool.
Sadamichi Matsudaira, the lord of Matsuyama Domain, established the regular feudral domain school, "Meikyo-kan", at 2 ban-cho, Matsuyama, expanding the learning facilities, in Feb. of 1828(Bunsei 11). Confucianism had mostly been lectured and according to the period, two department of imperial scholarship and arithmetics were lectured too in this school.
At that time when Meikyo-kan was founded, Shushigaku(a school of confucianism) became active again. Tokei(Hakugen) Kusaka, Fukusai Takahashi and others played an active part as the professor of the this school, and did a lot for the purge in the polotics of Matsuyama Domain.
