The many of the prisoners of Russo-Japanese War (of 1904 - 1905) were interned in Matsuyama. There used to be the prison camp at this place.
The name of Matsuyama have become well known to the world for that charitable women in Matsuyama took care of the prisoners, besides the war workers accrediated to the camp.
