"Walk in the wind
having myself
to blame"
(Santohka)
Ryutai-ji temple, well known for Zen meditation, is located on the west side of Isso-an hermitage at 1-chome Miyuki-cho Matsuyama city.
A river flows in front of this temple, is called Miyuki river. A stone bridge across over the river, at the entrance of the temple, is called "Taiko Bashi- Drum-type Bridge".
About 400 years ago, Yoshiakira Katoh who built Matsuyama Castle went to Korea to take part in the "Bunroku War" with Hideyoshi Toyotomi. It has been heard that he took many prisoner-of-war back home and told a stone mason among them to build a large number of stone bridge in the castle town. Many bridge of them have gone out of existence in cource of time, and only one bridge survived up to the present is this "Taiko Bashi".
This place to have there prisoners lived was "Tojin-cho-China Town", but by the change of residence indications, the name of it became extinct about ten and several years ago.
