This Museum, set up to keep alive the momory of Shiki Masaoka, was born in Matsuyama in 1867, the father of modern Haiku poetry, exhibits materials on the history and culture of Matsuyama and information about writers and poets who had close association with Shiki. Shiki is well-known in Japan for introducing a new style of Haiku, a short poetic form.
It is a rather rare museum in that it specializes in the short poetic form, and is the sancutuary of modern Haiku.
There is the Statue of Shiki Masaoka in the entrance hall of this museum.
