| The birthplace of Yoshifuru and Saneyuki | Tokiwa Same Province Foundation |
Yoshifuru Akiyama(General,1859 - 1930) was born the third son to Heigoro,Hisataka Akiyama, a Samurai belonged to the domain of Matsuyama, at this place (2-chome, Kachi-cho, Matsuyama) in 1859(Ansei 5).
In his boyhood, he had been brought up in a poor environment by the storm of Meiji Restoration, but he entered the military academy on the point of foundation, via teacher's school and established the school for cavalryman after the study abroad to France.
In Russo-Japanese War, he greatly distinguished himself in the battlefield of Manchuria.
After retairement, he made efforts to educate the young generation as the principal of Hokuyo Junior Highschool (The present Matsuyama Kita Highschool) and the president of the same province sosiety of Matsuyama.
He died at the age of 72 in 1930(Showa 5). His grave lies at Sagitani-cho, Dogo, Matsuyama.
Saneyuki Akiyama(Naval middle officer,1868 - 1918) was born the youger brother of Yoshifuru (The 5th son) in 1868(Meiji 1).
He had made a good friend with Shiki Masaoka from their primary school days. I n 1889(Meiji 23), he graduated from the naval academy at the top of the list. It had been well-known that he led Japan to the victory as the excellent staff off icer in Russo-Japanese War.
In 1895(Meiji 28), he founded the sosiety of Matsuyama same province as the tr aining hall for young people in Matsuyama, cooperating with his friend in his th e naval academy days, Ichizen Yamaji, Chikara Katsuta and others. It had been ta ken over till now, as "Tokiwa Same Province Foundation".
He died at the age of 51 in 1918(Taisho 7). He went to his final rest at the A oyama cemetery in Tokyo.
