Shiki's own handwriting from "Self-praise of my own photograph" in his essay, "Fude-Makase ; leave it a pen" of Apr. 1890 (Meiji 23).He said in this essay, that this Haiku appeared in the letter that I wrote Mr.. Ohtani with my own photograph that had taken with a bat and a ball at Maruki.

"Fude-Makase": This is the essay consisted of four volumes that Shiki wrote in his school days. After Shiki went up to Tokyo, he had written on this essay for nine years, form 1884 (Meiji 17) till 1892 (Meiji 25).
